The BSc Biomedical Science degree at Aberystwyth University explores clinical practice in relation to human health and disease. You will undertake a diverse set of practical exercises in state-of-the-art facilities and conduct a final year research project on an aspect of biomedical science of your choice. During your third year you will undertake a placement tailored to your interests and career aspirations, and our dedicated support team are committed to help you secure a position. This experience offers you the opportunity to establish industry contacts, develop practical skills, and better prepare yourself for the job market after graduating.

Course Overview

  1. You will learn about the investigation, diagnosis and monitoring of human health and disease through a variety of topics including immunology, blood science, genetics, microbiology, and bioinformatics.
  2. This degree will give you a solid foundation in the study of cellular, molecular, and chemical biology.
  3. We will nurture both your intellectual curiosity and your general scientific practice.
  4. Enhance your CV with up to a years’ experience working in industry
  5. Students arrange their work placement under the guidance of our Director for Employability. (If you do not secure a placement, then you can transfer to the sister course BSc Biomedical Science (B900).
  6. The Biomedical Science teaching staff are recognised as expert and innovative educators and researchers.
  7. All students have access to our fantastic modern laboratories, analytical facilities, and microscopy suites on campus.

Our Staff

The majority of teaching staff in the Department of Life Sciences are qualified to PhD level and are research active. Vocational courses also have staff whose background lies within industry. The Department has a large number of research only staff with whom students may have contact.

What will I learn?

A Levels BBB-BCC with B in Biology or Chemistry

GCSE requirements (minimum grade C/4):
Minimum grade C/4 in English or Welsh, Science and Mathematics

BTEC National Diploma:
DDD-DDM in a specified subject

International Baccalaureate:
30-28 with 5 points in Biology at Higher Level

European Baccalaureate:
75%-65% overall with 7 in Biology
