The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management and Businessat Aberystwyth University is a three-year programme that gives you the platform to conduct original academic research that makes a new contribution to your specific field of study. You can make new discoveries, test new theories and push the boundaries of current knowledge and understanding.

Members of staff are always happy to discuss possible PhD and MPhil research programmes in Management and Business with suitably qualified graduates.

Research should normally be related to one of the main areas of research of the department.

Typical Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements 2:1 Bachelors (Honours) degree in a relevant subject area, or equivalent.

English Language Requirements IELTS 6.5 with minimum 5.5 in each component, or equivalent

Other Requirements Applicants should submit a full research proposal at the point of application

About this course

Supervision

As a research student at Aberystwyth you’ll be allocated to a supervision team of two academic members of staff at Aberystwyth. The main supervisor is usually a senior academic with considerable research experience in your proposed field of study. The appropriateness of the match between student and supervisor is an important element in the success of any PhD programme.

Research Techniques

Unless you’ve already completed a Masters course with a recognised research training element, you’ll be required to complete the Social Science Research Training Programme. This will enable you to develop excellence in research techniques in order to successfully complete your PhD.

You may also be required to undertake additional advanced study modules in your chosen discipline.

Teaching & Learning

During your first year, you will complete our Social Science Research Training programme that will set you up with the skills and knowledge to successfully complete your PhD.

Your research will be guided by a supervisory team, who will help you refine your research proposal, and guide you in data collection and analysis. At the end of your studies, you will have a viva voce exam (a verbal defence of your thesis).
