We know that starting University isn’t just an exciting and perhaps anxious time for our students, but also for parents and carers. As such, we hope that this webinar will provide some helpful information and reassurance as you support your child as they make their transition to study and life here at Aberystwyth – we'll talk about key support services, opportunities for them to get involved, and how to get in touch if at any point you have any concerns.

Getting settled - from wellbeing to making great connections for international students (Thursday 7 September)

Whether you are super excited, feeling anxious or perhaps a bit of both, this webinar is for you. We will take the time to talk about Uni life and tell you about societies, the Sports Centre, the Arts Centre, and other areas of Uni life that you can engage in to support your overall well-being. The team will share top tips and hints to help you as you plan your transition to studying and living here at Aberystwyth University and we will explain a little bit about the area of Wales that you will be studying in (beaches, walks, faith spaces). We will explain to you how to access our service when things get tough, or when you notice a friend is not having the best time.

Student Accommodation – Living with Others (Friday 8 September)

Join our brilliant Residence Life team as they talk about all things accommodation.  Whilst they will focus on what it’s like to live in University-managed accommodation this will be relevant to any student who is starting at Aberystwyth University this year and who will be living with others. The team will help you as you prepare over these coming weeks and will share some brilliant tips and ideas to ensure that you have the most amazing time when you get here.

Know Your Degree and the Skills You Need (Monday 11 September)

This session will help you identify and plan for the assessed work in the modules you will be studying. It looks at what it means to study in Welsh / bilingually, the types of Welsh medium and bilingual modules that are available, and your choices when it comes to the language of assessment. It also covers ways of identifying your modules, their learning outcomes and content, links to reading lists, and how to identify your assignments. In addition, you will receive advice on good academic practice (referencing), essays, reports, presentations, exams and where to look for further information, advice and support.

Learning Effectively through Active Learning (Monday 18 September)

Active learning is a key feature of university study, but what does it look like in practice? In this session, we’ll share ideas for how you can turn passive learning into active learning and get the most out of lectures and readings. Using effective strategies enables you to remember more (with less time invested) and get better marks.
